RJS LAW Professional Corporation offers an incomparable articling experience. I was constantly encouraged to continue developing my personal and professional skills. I was quickly immersed in large commercial transactions, attending meetings, and interacting with clients. I was provided the opportunity to take on significant responsibilities by drafting and reviewing transactional documents, and attending client meetings. What sets RJS LAW apart is the range of files I was exposed to as an articling student, which included commercial, corporate, employment, arbitration, mediation, and small claims matters.

Ron Smith and the RJS LAW team have an open-door policy which provided me with the support I needed to learn and grow as an articling student. Students here are provided with the support and mentorship to help them build a strong foundation as they commence their legal career.

I have found Articling with RJS LAW to be nothing short of an excellent experience. I was given the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to files from early on in my Articling term, and have been involved in all aspects of files that collectively dealt with a wide range of topics and which touched on most of the matters that are addressed in a corporate law practice. In addition, the firm is a very welcoming environment where everyone is approachable, energetic, and eager to offer guidance. Overall, I feel as though my Articling experience with RJS LAW has prepared me well for practice and I am excited to continue working with the firm as an Associate.

Having the opportunity to work as an articling student at RJS LAW provided me with real exposure to a variety of legal work. I was able to dive into aspects of commercial contracts, corporate re-organizations, insurance regulatory compliance, zoning and planning law and was even involved in preparation and attendance at a commercial arbitration and litigation hearings.  I really enjoyed my time working there.  Ron Smith, the managing lawyer, is a very skillful and knowledgeable lawyer and mentor. He really cares about his clients, but also his employees. I would say he is a good friend to his employees.  Overall, the team at RJS LAW is very professional, reliable, and friendly. My articling experience at RJS Law was made incredibly rewarding thanks to the strong mentorship of my seniors and the diverse amount of work that I had the privilege of being hands-on with. From day one, I was entrusted with significant responsibilities on files ranging from M&A transactions to corporate reorganizations and shareholder disputes – with some being as large or complex as one would expect from larger firms. By being on files from start to finish, and from having the opportunity to interact with clients and opposing counsel, I was able to learn not just the ins and outs of the work, but also the soft skills needed to accompany them. The support and guidance from my colleagues were instrumental in my growth, and I am thrilled to have been hired back as an associate, where I continue to develop my skills alongside a talented and supportive team.
